Legislative Priorities

Agriculture is the cornerstone of Ventura County’s economy, supporting thousands of jobs throughout our region. It is also a proud part of our heritage, giving our community its unique beauty. In Congress, I have worked hard to support our farmers, farmworkers, and businesses that help feed the nation.

We have a sacred responsibility to those who have served our country in uniform. As a daughter, sister, and niece of veterans, I take no responsibility more personally and seriously. When I came to Congress, the very first committee I asked to serve on was the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee. Both here in Ventura County and at the national level, I have made it my priority to put our nation’s veterans first. That means helping our servicemembers transition back into civilian life and caring for our veterans by ensuring they all receive the timely, high-quality healthcare and benefits they have earned and deserve. It also means tackling veterans homelessness and unemployment and addressing high suicide rates that continue to plague our nation’s heroes. Finally, as more and more women join our Armed Forces and return home after their service, I’ve made it a special focus to ensure that the VA is prepared for the changing veteran demographics. Women represent the fastest-growing veteran population and the VA needs to adapt to meet their needs. That means making sure the VA offers gender-specific healthcare, addressing the unique circumstances leading to female veteran suicide, and providing critical wrap-around services like job-training, child care, and caregiver assistance. It’s long past time to recognize the contributions that all veterans, female and male, have made to our great nation.

We must invest in our nation’s infrastructure including our airports, roads, bridges, and waterways that are vital to the movement of people and goods across our country. As a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I have been working to address the infrastructure challenges facing Ventura County and the nation.

As Ventura County’s Representative in Congress, I view everything I do through the lens of how it will create jobs and grow our economy. From our ports, to our large and small businesses, to our naval base, to our agricultural community, I strive to advance federal policy that will support our diverse job creators.

The 26th District

The district includes most of Ventura County and a portion of Los Angeles County, including the cities of Oxnard, Santa Paula, Fillmore, Camarillo, Newbury Park, Moorpark, Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley, Westlake Village, Agoura Hills, and Calabasas. In a reckless and egregious overreach of power, the Trump administration has carried out mass firings and used aggressive tactics to intimidate and push federal employees out of their jobs.

To make matters worse, they have shown a blatant disregard for these workers by delaying or ...outright denying access to personnel files that contain critical documents needed to file taxes, apply for new jobs, or claim unemployment benefits.

Many were fired after hours or forced to hand over their devices on the spot, losing access to critical personnel documents and left without the paperwork needed to move forward, both professionally and personally.

I introduced this bill to ensure federal employees can access the records they are rightfully entitled to and without delay.

Women in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection, including those who are pregnant or postpartum, are being violently detained, denied critical medical care, and subjected to inhumane treatment.

When a pregnant woman begs for medical care and is... ignored until her child is stillborn, something is profoundly broken. When a nine-months-pregnant U.S. citizen is shoved to the ground by federal agents, it demands more than outrage. It demands action.

That is why the Democratic Women’s Caucus is demanding a full and immediate investigation into ICE and CBP’s treatment of women in their custody. We are calling for answers. We are demanding oversight. And we will not remain silent while women’s health, safety, and dignity are violated behind closed doors by agencies sworn to uphold the law.

In the dead of night, House Republicans rubber-stamped Donald Trump’s extreme and reckless budget cuts. This is a direct assault on the American people.

Just two weeks ago, every single Republican in the House voted to add $4.4 trillion to the national debt. They gutted Medicaid for 16 ...million Americans and raised health care costs for millions more. Now, they have the audacity to slash $9 billion from lifesaving programs and call it “cutting waste, fraud, and abuse.” This is not just hypocritical, it’s egregious.

They voted to defund agencies dismantled illegally at Elon Musk’s direction. They cut emergency alerts and local news coverage — even as communities across the country are devastated by wildfires, floods, and storms. And while doing nothing to protect public schools, they went after PBS KIDS, threatening Sesame Street and the programming children depend on.

This isn’t about fiscal responsibility or helping working families. It’s about giving billionaires more tax cuts and shifting the burden onto hardworking families.

House Democrats won’t stand by silently. We’re fighting for truth, for public safety, and for a future where every family has the tools to thrive.

Trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve is the foundation of public safety.

Across the country, there have been alarming reports of federal agents detaining individuals while concealing their identities, hiding behind masks, and refusing to identify themselves. These ...intimidation tactics are eroding trust, sowing fear in immigrant communities, and raising serious questions about the legitimacy of these operations. These tactics have no place in a democracy.

That is why Congress must pass the No Secret Police Act to prohibit DHS agents from concealing their identities during immigration enforcement operations.
This bill is about transparency, accountability, and the simple truth that no one is above the law.
